I have been skinny since my childhood and many people close to me and even my high school teachers would make fun of me and made me feel inadequate. Often comments like — ‘Aren’t you eating anything’, ‘You will fly away one day’ and so on, would come my way. I used to laugh it off earlier but it stopped being funny quickly. Though I had heard negative remarks about my skinny appearance from childhood, but since the remarks increased as I grew up, things started to get nasty. Comments directed towards me ranged from sarcastic to downright mean. At that time, it was a traumatic experience for me. My petite frame is out of my control and I didn't starve myself to remain thin. When I stopped letting the scale steal my happiness and be a gauge of my self-worth, I was able to really build a true love relationship with my body. I started modelling and fortunately won some prestigious pageants as well. The first pageant audition gave me anxiety I was afraid they won't choose me because I was 'too' skinny. But guess what? I was one of the finalists. I must say that body shaming is wrong. But the lines are still blur as to what is considered 'shaming'. Calling someone fat is hurtful. But shaming people for being skinny is never taken as being rude or even hurtful. The society as a whole, takes being thin as a privilege. People are skinny, curvy, tall, short, petite or large and that's the reality. No matter what size you are, as long as you're healthy, you ought to embrace the shape of your body. Girls, you are good enough to conquer the world as is!' said Bonnie Sarkar . . . . #skinnyshaming #bodyshaming #bodypositivity #stopbodyshaming Chat conversation end Type a message...
